You must get a fresh new mat! Rolex spent years after the quartz crisis era to destroy every independent watch service center. Demanding all their old gifted equipment back, destruction of replacement parts, severely restricting availability of parts, manuals, and finally refusing to service to watches that aren't new! You've had it all handed to you!

So tourbillon was invented because of that stupid regulator and stud than gravity...

I don't know if it is a joke but I believe it is a true story. A watchmaker told me he had a client with a watch not serviced for a long time. He serviced the watch oiled and adjusted it. He said it was not a problem the watch needed maintinance but he found a dead insect in the movment. When the client asked what the problem was, he said the machinist / operator died.

Fifty years of the rain, heat and cold, and that's after being through a cow. There's no crown on the watch. All of the steel must be a corroded mess. Hopefully the brass plates, wheels and whatnot have survived and are reusable. What really has me wondering is the shellac, will the pallet stones and impulse jewel still be in place? Thanks for taking on this job and sharing it with us. You're a great teacher. :-)

Currently in the U.S. watch schools are now turning out “watch technicians” and no longer watch makers. In my humble opinion, this is an attempt by the big brands to create a stream of indentured employees as opposed to individuals who can go out and hang their own shingle. I am a self taught watchmaker with 40 years experience. I grew up extremely poor and have wanted for nothing since entering this profession. You can do this until either you or circumstances determine your end date and you can go into business anywhere in the world. Tell me another industry aside from the “oldest profession” that you can do this. Not to mention that watchmaking doesn’t come with the hazards of the aforementioned! Great video. Thank you.

This is Awesome!. If the movement is in pretty decent shape and can be restored, this'll be another big ego boost and advertisement for Rolex...as if their head isn't big enough already. Of course, it couldn't be in better hands. Can't wait!

This is a vintage Bovine Bowel Movement with two escapements. One in the watch, the other out of a cow!

Somehow I knew when I saw this story you would be restoring it. That was a fantastic offer to the family as well as a journey for you.
